Dear Farm Owners and Agricultural Leaders of Norfolk County,
On behalf of Norfolk County Council and our entire community, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude and appreciation for your ongoing dedication to the agricultural sector in Norfolk County.
Agriculture is at the heart of our community, and your hard work and commitment over generations have helped build Norfolk into the strong and vibrant farming community it is today. From early mornings to navigating unpredictable weather, market pressures, and the many challenges that come with farming, your perseverance is admirable.
Beyond the important work you do in our fields, greenhouses, orchards, and farms, I especially want to recognize the care and support you provide to the seasonal workers who travel far from home to contribute to our local agricultural industry.
For many workers, arriving in Norfolk County means embarking on an entirely new experience—a new country, a new workplace, new surroundings, and often a new language and culture. During this transition, you take on a role that extends far beyond that of an employer. You become a guide, a mentor, a support system, and often a welcoming first connection to our community.
Whether it is helping workers settle into housing, bringing them into town for necessities, assisting them in navigating local services, or simply ensuring they feel welcomed and supported, your compassion and leadership make a meaningful difference in their experience here.
I would also like to thank you for your support of the Chill Spot initiative. This important resource provides seasonal workers with a welcoming place to connect with others, access support, build friendships, and experience a sense of community while away from home. Your partnership and encouragement of initiatives like this demonstrate the strong sense of care and responsibility that exists within Norfolk’s agricultural community.
